Northeastern State bounced back from a tough weekend and hammered NCAA Division I Western Illinois with a 7-0 sweep at home Wednesday.

The win is the first against an NCAA Division I program in Tahlequah and the third consecutive.  In their last meetings with D-I programs, Northeastern State went 2-0 in 2018.

"The team bounced back from a tough weekend in a big way," said head coach Tim McLane.  Any time you can pick up a 7-0 win, it's a good day, especially over a D-I opponent.

I thought our new-look doubles team did some really nice things today.  We were able to be efficient with our offense in singles and take care of business.  Good prep to get us ready to open up conference play here at home on Saturday."

Northeastern State swept its double's courts for the first time since its season opener against Ouachita Baptist for the early point.

In singles, Emilia Cosatto made quick work of her foe in less than an hour in straight sets.  Valeria Teran needed just over 60 minutes for NSU's third point, winning 6-4, 6-1 on court five.    Leah Gonzales-Edwards clinched the match win on court three by a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Western Illinois (5-8) pushed three-set matches on courts two and five.  Alisha Moldakhmetova won 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-4, and Sandra Mari Marti took a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 result.

Northeastern State improves to 5-3 and will open MIAA play Saturday against Central Oklahoma at noon in Tahlequah.
