Northeastern State University Obukwelu Signs Pro Contract in Croatia

Emeka Obukwelu, a standout Northeastern State men's basketball player from the 2021-22 season, has signed his first professional contract.  Obukwelu will begin his professional career for KK Adria Oil Skrljevo in Croatia, a member of the top league in the country.

"We are so proud of and happy for Emeka for signing his first professional contract," said head coach Ja Havens.  "He has earned this opportunity through tireless effort and hard work to develop himself as a basketball player.  We are confident in his future success because of the person that he is.  He is a tremendous basketball player, but he is an even better person."

Obukwelu came to Tahlequah as a graduate fifth-year transfer and started all 30 games last season.  The native of Plano, Texas, averaged 15 points per game and led the team with seven double-doubles.  He was also an All-MIAA selection following the regular season and was top-30 nationally in defensive rebounds per game (6.93).

"We are thankful for the impact that Emeka had on our basketball program at NSU, and we look forward to following his progress and success at the professional level. He came to Tahlequah with very high standards and a specific goal of becoming a professional basketball player, and we are thrilled to see him achieve that goal."
