Tuition for Oklahoma residents attending Northeastern State University rose by 4% during the 2022-23 school year, as revealed in the latest report, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Oklahoma residents paid $7,400 to attend the public four-year university this year, an increase of $285 from the $7,115 charged in the 2021-22 academic year.

Non-resident tuition for the 2022-23 school year was $16,385, which is 121.4% higher than the in-state rate. This represents a 4% increase from the $15,755 charged in the previous year.

Approximately 91% of the undergraduate student body are Oklahoma residents, while about 8% come from other states and 1% are international students.

Data indicates that 93% of full-time undergraduates who began studies at Northeastern State University in 2022-23 received some form of financial aid. A total of 569 students were awarded grants or scholarships amounting to $4.5 million, and 311 students obtained loans exceeding $1.8 million.

Across all undergraduates, 3,381 students received grants or scholarships totaling $27.6 million, while 1,994 students borrowed $13.7 million in federal student loans.

Undergraduate education costs have seen a significant increase over the past few decades. Data shows a 169% rise in the average total cost, including tuition, fees, room, and board, between 1980 and 2020.

Meanwhile, student loan debt has steadily increased over the last 30 years, reaching $1.75 trillion in 2024, averaging a total of $28,950 per borrower. Federal loans make up 92% of the debt, with over half of students at both public and private four-year colleges graduating with student loans.
